A little about me...
I've been writing since I could hold a pencil. But, it's a bit more legible nowadays. I enjoy elevating voices in my stories who have had too few. You know you're reading a J.Elle book if it's impossible to put down and at some point, you're crying. My personal motto is: eat tacos like its a hobby, laugh as often as possible, and joy is good for the soul, so cling to it.
For a more formal intro, I guess I should mention that I'm the New York Times, Indie bestselling and award-winning author of multiple books including Against The Tide, an original prequel novel tie-in to The Little Mermaid live action film. My debut duology, Wings of Ebony, dubbed “an incredible debut” by NPR and best fantasy book by POPSUGAR, was a 2022 NAACP Image Award Nominee for Outstanding Literary Work for Youth and Teens, an Amazon Editor’s pick for Best Science Fiction and Fantasy, a Barnes and Noble YA Book Club Pick, a First Novelist American Library Association Honor Book and the recipient of a Kirkus starred review.
My forthcoming blockbuster fantasy romance trilogy, House of Marionne is being translated into ten languages across 5 continents. I credit my nomadic lifestyle and humble inner-city beginnings as inspiration for her novels. When I'm not writing, I can be found on the hunt for desserts without chocolate, drowning myself in regency romance, and looking for any excuse to wear a tiara.
Thanks for popping by!
I am represented by Jodi Reamer at Writers House.
How I Became an Author?
I pitched what would become my debut novel to the world in #DVPit in October 2018. DVPit is a Twitter pitch contest literary agents and publishing professionals peruse to scout for talent. After a wildly successful 300+ likes and hundreds of retweets and comments, the message was clear: Rue's story would have a home in the hearts of readers.
